Plymouth and district Evening Cricket League ? division three Yelverton v Oddballs GOING into the game undefeated, Yelverton were level on points with Oddballs so it was a case of winner takes all. Yelverton batted first and there with useful contributions all the way down the order. Richard Atkinson top scored with 29 and Geoff Willcocks bludgeoned a quickfire 22 lower down as Yelverton amassed 146-8 in their allotted overs. Oddballs were confident of getting the runs but hadn?t counted on a devastating spell of bowling from 15 year old Rob Bennett as he proceeded to take five for seven off his four overs including a hatrick. Oddballs were 64-6 at one point, but were bowled out for 66 after Bennett?s cameo effort. This was the first year that Yelverton had entered a team in the P&D Competition and a pleased skipper Tim Rutherford said: ?It?s been great fun this season despite the weather forcing the cancellation of four of our games. ?We primarily entered the league to give more of our younger players a chance to play adult league cricket and apart from a few ?old sweats? like Simon Beare, Paul O?Hanlon, and Geoff Willcocks we?ve always tried to have at least four or five U18s in the team each week. To win the division three title in our first season is a real bonus!?
