AN acclaimed singer song-writer will be appearing in a Tavistock concert this Saturday in aid of those living in some of the world's poorest communities. Martin John Nicholls will perform at the café style event in the Tavistock Methodist Church at 7.30pm. Martin's music has taken him around the globe — with his seven albums containing a collection of songs of freedom, justice and hope, inspired by encounters in poor communities. He will perform songs from 'Harvest of Hope', which includes personal stories and inspiring images from West Africa. The evening includes songs in which the audience is taught African drum rhythms. Martin, who is currently touring the South West, said: 'These shows are like postcards from places we might never visit, and perhaps would rather not visit. 'Too many of the world's people live under crippling oppression and without hope. I have tried to lend them my voice so that their cries might be heard by those who have the power to change things.' Tickets cost £5 per person or £3 for concessions and are available on the door. All proceeds go to Christian Aid.
