Ocean league Under 12s Tavistock Girls 6 Saltash Youth 0 TAVISTOCK Girls had their work cut out against a much improved Saltash side. The score line shows the hard work and determination to win against strong physical opponents. Tavistock Girls have notched up an incredible 61 goals in 10 matches and are fighting for top position in their league. After constant pressure in the Saltash goal mouth a handball saw Rebecca Rose smash her penalty into the net. It took another 15 minutes of battling for Glasspoole to break through and slot into the corner. Tavistock won a number of corners and Rose just shot wide or saw her shot saved by an excellent keeper. The defence of Shaw, Hammond and Gordon worked hard and confidently took the ball upfield. Wingers Gale and Glasspoole made great runs down both wings but a very fast defender kept them at bay. In the second half Eales came on as sweeper and with her timing and speed Foster in goal only had to pull off one save. With a number of late challenges coming in Tavistock lost three players in succession. But the last eight minutes saw Tavistock?s fitness winning through and a great run by Glasspoole saw a cross met by Gale who tapped in from close range. Tavistock piled on the pressure and Hammond ran through and struck hard and low to see the keeper unable to hold her shot. Rose left through injury but Saltash were on the back foot and Tavistock struck again when a shot from Gale was saved by the keeper?s foot only to see Gordon slide in to poke it into the back of the net. Player of the match: Katie Glaspoole.
