A SELECTION of freakish beats and ghastly grooves will be heard in Calstock Village Hall on October 31 when a variety of DJs perform for a celebration of Hallowe'en.

The event is being organised by the Calstock Festival Collective as part of a series of fundraisers throughout the year in the run up to Calstock Festival in May.

There will be spooky visuals, delicious food and fancy dress is encouraged. Entry fee is £3 before 11pm and £4 after 11pm. The evening starts at 8pm.

There will also be a Hallowe'en treasure hunt aimed at children of all ages from 2pm to 4pm with lots going on in the village hall, including pumpkin soup, cakes, a raffle, face-painting and a fancy dress parade.

Monthly gigs and workshops are being run to raise funds for Calstock Festival but also to provide something for the community on a more regular basis.

Last year's green-themed festival was a great success but the Calstock Festival Collective wants to make it bigger and better in 2010 with a more diverse range of entertainment.

Collective member Rosie Brennan said: 'As well as the usual mix of music, stalls and workshops, plans are being made to include film, performance art, comedy and more activities for children of all ages.

'With more focus on sustainability and alternative energy, we also hope to offer an even greener festival in 2010.'

Music workshops for young people are also in the pipeline with a view to forming bands which can be in future festivals. Anyone wishing to play, perform or be involved in festival events should contact the festival crew at [email protected]">[email protected]
