Duchy Premier St Dominick 1 Gunnislake 2 AFTER a two-week enforced lay-off, Gunnislake returned to action and gained a hard earned victory against their local rivals. An even first half saw both sides create good positions. Saints were threatening from set plays as they used their height advantage to good effect. But Gunnislake?s rearguard stood up to this challenge with keeper Andy Brenton commanding his penalty area. Of the openings created only one was taken and this was for the hosts. Aaron West received a good long pass and turned his marker impressively before producing a good finish. The second half saw Gunnislake have more of the ball and spend the greater share of the game on the attack. This led to them equalising on 70 minutes. A Stuart Wakenshaw centre was headed on by Steff Kelly and then headed home at the far post by veteran full back Mark Southcott. With ten minutes remaining Tom Hall scored a fantsastic goal when after a good run down the right wing he cut inside and found the far top corner of the goal. This sparked Saints to push forward as they searched for an equaliser. Gunnislake got men back and they stood firm, protecting Brenton well. In fact it was the visitors who had the better chances as they broke quickly on several occasions. But good goalkeeping from Saints? Rich Corfield combined with some wayward finishing prevented any increase to the scoreline. This Saturday Gunnislake travel to St Minver for a 2.30pm kick-off.
