A WEST Devon community hall is to be refurbished thanks to a grant of £4,000 by Devon County Council from funds allocated from the sale of Exeter International Airport.
The Jubilee Hall in Chagford needs a range of structural work costing about £36,000.
The money from the county council will go towards paying for the reinstatement of a wall, repairs to the roof and improvements to the acoustics.
The £4,000 was allocated by Hatherleigh and Chagford county councillor James McInnes from his local projects fund.
Cllr McInnes said: 'I'm pleased I have managed to secure this funding. The Jubilee Hall is an important public place in Chagford and these improvements will help secure a bright future.'
Tim Myers, a trustee of Jubilee Hall , said: 'The trustees of the hall are very grateful for this grant which makes a major contribution to the cost of our refurbishment programme.
'The hall is the main venue for a wide range of events and activities in Chagford but was in need of updating.
'It holds a special place in the affections of the community having been designed in 1936 by a local architect who, remarkably for those times, was a woman.'
