FORTY years of Sourton Parish Hall will be celebrated this weekend.

The parish hall was built 40 years ago, and to mark the occasion a day of celebration will take place this Saturday, September 6.

Anyone who helped to build the hall would be most welcome to come along and is asked to contact Geraldine Jury, chairman of the parish hall committee, on 01837 861414 or 07773 279125.

In the afternoon, there will be stalls, raffles and refreshments. From 7.30pm there will be a wine and cheese party with entertainment with Bridestowe and Sourton Follies, Devon dialect with Margaret Gale and live blues and rock music with local band One Point Five.

Mrs Jury said that down the years, the hall had served many different uses, including as a meeting place for the WI, church groups and the parish council. The hall had also been a venue for bowls and the starting point for rides being held by various cycle groups.

The hall had also hosted dances, cream tea evenings in the summer and pantomimes by Bridestowe and Sourton Follies.

Last year the hall won an award for its modern disabled toilets. It also hosted the village?s celebrations to mark the Queen?s Golden Jubilee.

?We have had some fantastic moments at the hall. It is a focal point for the community,? said Mrs Jury.

She said the village hall was in a ?nice spot? in the centre of the village, beside the church.

Tickets and further details are available from Mrs Jury on the above numbers.
