Honiton Town 3rds 4
Okehampton Argyle 3rds 1
OKEHAMPTON were looking for a big performance against Honiton Town, who were one place below them in the league.
Okehampton stuck to the task of pacing themselves on the heavy waterlogged pitch. Yelland started at left back, replacing the injured Monnox. He performed well, blocking most of the attacks on the left side.
On nine minutes Stepto combined well with Evans to threaten Honiton's goal. Morgan and Hooper battled well with Honiton's number 10, making most of his attacking moves ineffective.
Jon Carter made many fine saves and Hooper cleared the ball off the line. Okehampton were constantly looking for a way through with Kinsey and Griffiths trying to weave through the midfield and provide good service to the waiting Luxton, Eddy and Stepto.
Against the run of play, Honiton scored with a header from a cross on 35 minutes. Argyle tried to equalise before half-time as a Kinsey header was palmed over the bar.
At half-time, Okehampton were encouraged to ignore Honiton's tactics and play with confidence. The rewards came after 58 minutes when Evans scored from a corner.
Then disaster struck as Honiton responded, running straight at the goal from the kick off, and catching Okehampton completely off guard.
Shortly afterwards Honiton substituted three players and increased the tempo of the game. Argyle were unable to respond, despite a few tactical changes. The match ended a disappointing 4-1, Honiton scoring a further two untidy goals.
Man of the match: Jon Carter
This Saturday, home to Uplowman, 2.30pm kick-off.
