A GROUP of seven men embarked on an 84-mile hiking challenge earlier this year, to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

The group was Mark Wall, Paul Allen, Chris Abbott, Carl Gatcum, John Hill, John Gosling and Lee Fitzsimmons, who have been friends for around 20 years.

The men hiked along the world famous Hadrian's Wall and completed the challenge in an incredible — and painful — four days, through all weathers.

Mark said: 'The walk was an idea a few of us spoke about over a couple of drinks which then escalated to a charity event due to a number of people close to us all suddenly passing away due to heart related deaths — because of this reason we chose the British Heart Foundation as our charity.'

The walk was a challenge for all involved and one none of them had expected.

Mark added: 'When we reached the end of the walk we all felt a great sense of achievement, for not only was this a great personal challenge but we also raised money for a great charity.

'It was an incredibly hard four days but for a worthwhile cause and an experience none of us will ever forget.'

The team raised an incredible £1,714.50 and expressed thanks to all who supported and donated.

Rebecca Landolt, head of community fundraising, said: 'If it wasn't for the generous support of our fundraisers going the extra mile for our cause, we wouldn't be able to fund continue our fight against heart disease.

'Their incredible efforts are what powers our lifesaving research to help prevent, treat and cure these devastating conditions.

'Every pound raised helps save more lives. Why not follow in their footsteps and sign-up to one of our events?'
