Duchy Premier Bere Alston 0 Gunnislake 1 THE opening half hour saw the game flow from end to end with both sides probing for the opener but good openings were at a premium until the 35th minute when Nathan Dore brought down Dave Hallett to give the hosts a spot kick. Lee Blatchford delivered a decent strike in to the bottom corner but Gunnislake keeper Andy Brenton made an excellent save. Minutes later Stuart Wakenshaw hit a terrific 20 yard strike that brought a fine save from Craig Howells resulting in a corner; Wakenshaw's cross resulted in veteran Mark Vernon heading home when left alone just eight yards from goal. The second half saw the game continue at pace and switching from end to end. As the half wore on Bere threw more men forward and this left gaps for Gunnislake to exploit with Stef and Jarryd Kelly both causing problems. Jarryd Kelly had two good opportunities that sandwiched a great chance for Bere's Chris Truscott. Kelly hit the post when he turned a centre from his brother Stef goalwards. Truscott fired wide from close range when he got on the end of a free kick. Kelly then found himself through on goal only to shoot narrowly wide. Bere applied much pressure in the final 10 or so minutes as Gunnislake produced a tremendous rearguard action with their back four — of Steve Cribb, Paul Heath, Nathan May and Nathan Dore - all producing superb performances.
