NEW officers, members and helpers are needed to reform the Okehampton support group for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
The group, which has been raising funds for almost 20 years, folded recently because of the retirement of the chairman and treasurer.
Roger Morton, from the Exeter branch, praised Ted Brint and Bill Cox who had worked tirelessly for the association but had to give up because of advancing years and failing health.
'We have always had good support from Okehampton but there needs to be a chairman and treasurer to keep a support group going,' he said.
'We also need helpers who can perhaps give up to an hour or two a week.'
Mr Morton said there were 4,800 guide dogs in this country which was more than any other country affiliated to the international movement of the guide dog force.
'It costs 50p to buy a guide dog and all the bills for food and vets' fees are met by the association,' he said.
The Exeter branch of the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association will be having a stall in Okehampton Market on April 13 and hopes lots of local people will come along to have a look.
Mr Morton added: 'We are there for people to find out more about what we do and if they offer their services that would be a marvellous plus.'
