DESPITE less than ideal weather conditions this game went ahead on a 3G astro turf pitch.
Thistles worked well as a team, encouraging each other through the difficult conditions. Goalkeeper Josh Monger made some key saves and was awarded Man of the Match for his efforts. Other performances worthy of a mention came from Ben Hughes, Dom Monger, Joe Mitchell and Keiren McClary who are all improving game by game.
Thistles are always looking for new players to strengthen the squad. Anyone interested is welcome to come along to training at Tavistock College all weather pitch from 7pm to 8pm on a Wednesday evening for a free trial. THISTLES played this game away to Torpoint Athletic in extremely difficult weather conditions. Despite the circumstances, Thistles tried to play some good football and were justly rewarded when Ben Backway scored his first goal for the team.
Thistles used this goal as momentum and man of the match Toby Scanlan scored a second shortly before half time to keep the pressure firmly on Torpoint.
Ten minutes into the second half Torpoint were awarded a penalty, which they converted to make it 2-1.
Moments later Torpoint were awarded another, more dubious penalty, given against goalkeeper Isaac Jeffery for a tackle that seemed to be outside of the penalty area. Torpoint converted the resulting spot kick to level the score, despite Jeffery's best efforts to keep the ball out of the net.
The Thistles players showed great character to battle back, with Scanlan scoring a screamer to make it 3-2. Thistles played well as a team, showing grit and determination to get the victory that they so thoroughly deserved.
