I WRITE with reference to Mr Cahill's letter in your last edition. Having lived in the Milton Abbot United Benefice for the last 20 years, which includes all the time that the Rev Greg Stanton has been our vicar, I believe I am qualified to know him and his family better that Mr Cahill.
We are very much a farming community and Greg goes out of his way to understand our lives. Bee-keeping is a very respected activity in our area which helps to connect our spiritual leader with his parishioners.
The fact that a newspaper report fails to include mention of God, Jesus Christ, Christianity or the Holy Bible cannot be a judgement on Greg's commitment as in my experience those who are the subject of an article seldom get the opportunity to vet the details of the final draft.
Greg's wife Joyce is a reader, his daughter is a qualified aeroplane pilot, one son works on a farm and the other is in the RAF.
Perhaps I have had longer to learn how to judge a Godly man than Mr Cahill who mentions the year 1968 — I have tried to be a Christian since 1930.
