RENDELLS Auctioneers' rural department reported a shorter entry of suckled calves than usual at their annual show and sale at Chagford Market on November 28, with the fantastic trade commented on by many of the people in attendance.
Taking home the coveted champion trophy and reserve were Messrs H Scott and Son with their bunch of three Blonde d'Aquitaine steers which realised £860 per head.
The Tom Turner Blonde d'Aquitaine Trophy was also awarded to the same pen of three. The Farmers' Trophy was won by Mr G Arscott for his Limousin x heifer.
Top price of the day was achieved by Messrs I G Mortimore and Son for their March-born Charolais x steers which sold for £900 apiece.
Hot on their heels was an entry of two Charolais Steers from the same home realising £860, as did the Champion pen from Messrs H Scott and Son.
