Plymouth Uni B 2

Okehampton Men's Hockey Club A 2

AFTER two heavy defeats against third placed Dart and first placed Truro, the Okehampton youngsters had a trip to second placed Plymouth University B.

The match started well for Okehampton with Plymouth having little possession and few shooting chances against the defence. Okehampton continued to maintain possession and soon scored a well deserved goal with Chris Searle striking the ball which took a deflection into the net.

Okehampton immediately started to look for a second but were unable to find the net. Their inexperience started to show at times and they were caught on the break and the scores levelled.

The second half did not start well for Okehampton as in the first five minutes a soft short corner was awarded against them which the Plymouth side converted. Even with being 2-1 down, Okehampton remained 100% committed and had a number of chances.

They managed to level the scores with Searle getting his second by getting the final touch in a scrap on the goal-line.

Okehampton continued to play great team hockey and were unlucky not to get a third with Nick Luxton dribbling past four Plymouth defenders and shooting towards the top right corner of the net but it was superbly saved by the Plymouth goalkeeper.

Overall this was a great team performance and a well deserved point for the Okehampton youngsters.

Man of the match: Nick Luxton.
