NORTHLEW Horse Show took place at East Kimber on Saturday week. Sadly, this will be the final show in the existing format as the organisers feel the time has come to ?hang up their hats? and retire.
But they hope some people may wish to get together and put on a new show in the future.
Northlew Show has been going strong for 26 years ? this being the 25th ? foot and mouth forced the cancellation for 2001.
The weather was fine and warm, and the going underfoot excellent. Entries were good and the happy atmosphere, which has become the trademark of the show, prevailed.
Judge Michael Scott from Watchet, selected the cob Rubber Ball as his champion, shown by Gary Warren. Reserve went to the working hunter winner, Biddy Peck?s Noddy. Mrs Anne Sizmur?s choice in the pony classes was riding pony Rosedew Rambling Rose, who secured the title for Rachel Hazelhurst, with lead rein winner Leafycroft Rhys in reserve.
Under judge Keith Rowland, mountain and moorland honours went to Wendy Bridges? homebred Highland mare Holmedown Cobweb, with reserve going to Mr and Mrs Locke?s Dartmoor stallion, Hisley Casino.
The in hand championship was won by Mr and Mrs Locke?s miniature coloured Shetland Tawna Gimmick and Rosedew Rambling Rose stood reserve.
The ?fun? classes, always a great feature of this show, attracted huge entries, and were ably judge by Mrs Ruth Teague and in the afternoon the show jumping classes proved to be as popular as ever.
