ST MAWES was the venue for the last triathlon event of 2011 for Tavistock Triathlon Club.

Ten members of the club entered the sprint distance race which was held in aid of Help for Heroes. The event consisted of a 750m swim, 20k bike and 5k run. The bike section was incredibly technical with many hills, twists and turns. The run was partly off road and took in some of the beautiful scenery around the estuary. Of course all the athletes were far to busy racing to enjoy the scenery though!

All the hard training throughout 2011 meant the club acheived some fantastic results: Tim Mitchell 1.34, Liz Vernon 1.44, Dave Ruffell 1.46, Alison Whitford 1.47, Nicky Deane Simmons 1.48, Stewart Pearce 1.48, Georgina Freestone 1.52, Lindsay Hobbs 1.55.

Janet Hopkinson who has struggled with the concept of open water swimming all year did an amazing effort and completed half the swim before retiring from the race overwhelmed by racing in the sea!

Alex Lemon also took part in the Bustskin Weymouth Sprint Triathlon which was around the Isle of Portland. The event consisted of 750m swim along Ham Beach, 20km bike taking in the famous Bill lighthouse, and a 5km run along the coastal path. Alex did the whole event in 1.25 which was a really amazing result.
