Whitchurch U15s v Lewdown U15s
AFTER winning the toss, the Whitchurch captain had no hesitation in asking the visitors to bat.
The younger of the Barriball brothers opened the bowling with new recruit Goff making his home debut. Goff bowled a fantastic spell of swing bowling, taking four for 11 from his four overs. Dom Monger followed up Goff's opening spell with four wickets of his own, ending with four for 17. The star with the bat for Lewdown was their skipper, Jack Williams, who made a hard hitting 24. With some wayward bowling, Lewdown ended up 89 all out with extras being top score.
In reply, Williams tore into the Whitchurch top order, removing three batsmen with some fantastic agressive bowling. Williams finished with three for nine from his 4 overs. When the Whitchurch captain, Billy Barriball, was clean bowled for 12, leaving Whitchurch on 26 for four, Lewdown sensed victory. Charlie Barriball replaced his brother at the crease and in tandem with Danny Hamill, set about attacking the Lewdown bowling.
Hamill batted superbly for his 15 before slipping in the damp conditions and being run out. Charlie (20) was out shortly after, and it was left to Dan Poole (four not out) to calmly edge Whitchurch the victory by three wickets.
The standard of cricket played in appalling conditions was a credit to both teams.
