Tavistock CC v Devon Over 50s

TAVISTOCK C C began their season with a friendly against Devon Over 50's at the Ring on a beautiful Easter Sunday.

The many spectators that turned up were treated to an entertaining game.

Devon Over 50's batted first, and a steady start from Mountford and Newing took the score to 43 before Mountford was bowled by James McGahey. Newing continued to bat well with Phil Bees, and they steadily built the score up to 171 - 6 in their  40 overs. All the Tavistock bowlers had a workout and Shaun Daymond, with 2 - 28, was probably the pick of them.

On Tavistock's brand new square it was noted at half time that there was not a single mark on the wicket, augering well for the coming season.

Tavistock's innings started well with Ian Gray and Will Simpson soon scoring freely. It was a surprise when Ian Gray was caught but Josh Stephens replacing him was positive from the word go, and soon the scoring rate was racing along at seven an over. Will Simpson retired at 68 and Shaun Daymond carried on in the same mode. Tavistock easily reached their target with 14 overs to spare to give a convincing win.
