WILDWOOD Kin, Tobias Ben Jacob and Lukas Drinkwater are lined up to play Tavistock Wharf’s second Limelight Night on Friday, January 29 following the success of it’s recent launch which saw There Goes Lizzie, Jamo Hope and Tom Baker woo a sizeable crowd.

The venue is confident that the event will grow into something very special with quality acts being booked and will act as a steep learning curve for performers.

Organiser Ellie Fox said: ’We believe it did what we were hoping, which was to give the acts a "kick up the bum" on their own marketing and advertising skills.

The event forced them to promote, more than maybe they would from receiving an amount of money from a pub. The Wharf is more of a destination, and not likely to get the passing footfall or the regulars, therefore it forced bands to tackle the business side of pushing their brand as they were receiving a generous box office split.

’The music business is a business, and we really want local musicians to succeed, and we felt this gave them the chance to really promote themselves and get an accurate representation of who is supporting them.??Ellie added: ‘I’m hoping that the Limelight nights will be something for local musicians to aspire to. We have so much talent emerging locally and it is good to have goals to aim for to ensure we get the best out of what we have.’

The Wharf proprietor Angela Court said: ‘I was seriously impressed with the acts that were on our stage for the first Limelight Night and all are worthy of being invited back in so I’m looking at support slots for them with some of the bigger touring bands that come through our doors — that is how they grow and learn to work with professionals while gaining confidence along the way.’

Coming up next week are Exeter-based Indie/Americano trio Wildwood Kin comprising two sisters and their cousin, with a sound described as beautiful and thoughtful harmonies accompanied on a range of acoustic instruments.

Tobias Ben Jacob’s been lauded by BBC 6’s Tom Robinson and received airplay for single Burning Low on national radio including BBC Radio 2, BBC6, Amazing Radio and BBC Introducing to name a few as well as being described in R2 Rock N Reel magazine as ’inventive and thrilling’ .

Lukas Drinkwater is one of the most in-demand session musicians in the UK. As principally a double-bass and electric-bass player, Lukas has also featured on many highly acclaimed records as a singer, guitarist, mandolinist and cellist. He has had his compositions played on radio stations around the world, including BBC Radio 2, as well as performing at some of the biggest festivals throughout Europe, featuring as a guest artist on stage with The Levellers on European tour, and headlining folk clubs as a solo artist.
