WALKHAM Valley played Wembury Grasshoppers at their delightful pitch above Wembury village on Sunday.

Put into bat first, Walkham put on an impressive 158 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 30 overs. The top Walkham scorers were Long 30 not out, Colton (guest player) 25 not out, J Berry 24 and R Berry 19.

The most impressive - and unconventional - shot came from Shutt who scooped a full toss over his head for 4 runs, just falling short of a 6. Spry also put in a personal best score this season with 16 runs.

Tight early bowling by Walkham kept the Grasshoppers? run rate down with Long 2 for 15, J Berry 2 for 11 and Ralph 0 for 8 being the top Walkham bowlers.

A tight finish was always on the cards and Grasshoppers managed to surpass Walkham?s score with only seven balls left in the match.

A thoroughly enjoyable game played in the best spirit of cricket.
