A THEATRE company based in Okehampton has received a £2,500 Lottery grant to enable it to hold an awards evening to recognise the achievements of its disabled members. The Get Changed Theatre Company works with adults with learning difficulties from West and Mid Devon, offering the chance for members to raise issues that affect them personally through drama. Over the last three years, Get Changed has visited many secondary schools across the county with its production, Freak Boy. The Get Changed Theatre Awards 2006 aims to recognise achievements in raising awareness on bullying and disability issues. The awards evening takes place next Friday, November 24, at the Charter Hall, Okehampton. Despite the success of their recent work, Get Changed as a registered charity struggles to maintain financial security. Vicky Hooper, project co-ordinator said: 'I hope the awards ceremony will help us to attract support for the future. Changes in care provision for those with learning disabilities means our service is more important than ever.' The members are all involved in the planning of the event, and supported by artistic director Jane Foxwell are devising their own speeches and presentations.
