A WEST Devon community group has received another cash boost to benefit a remote moorland village. High Moorland Community Action Ltd (HMCA) in Princetown has received a second instalment of £3,000 from Devon County Council for an initiative which is improving the quality of lives of the village?s residents. The HMCA help set up and support local projects, and encourage local people to be involved with shaping the village?s future. Through the HMCA the village now has a child care facility providing after school care and holiday club; local access to vocational training courses; a social group facility for older people run by Tavistock Area Support Services; a Credit Union branch; Citizens? Advice Bureau outreach work. And HMCA facilitates other activities within the village. Plans for a new community facility have been developed to house a GP surgery, library, childcare, training and to provide local access to sport facilities and cultural and social events. Roy Connelly, chairman of the county council?s West Devon county committee, said: ?Through our county committees, Devon County Council is supporting local projects that are making real differences to people?s lives. HMCA works closely with us and other statutory authorities to improve services for local people.? County member for Yelverton Rural, Alan Hosking, also a member of the West Devon County Committee, said: ?Princetown is one of the council?s priority areas for support in Devon. It is exciting to play a part in planning the future of Princetown and to watch these plans taking shape.? David Swales, chairman of HMCA said: ?Having the financial support and encouragement of both County and Borough Councils together with the South Hams and West Devon Primary Health Care Trust, has enabled HMCA to lay progressive foundations in providing and supporting many local initiatives within this community. ?Through its community worker, Jenny Coleman, other staff and volunteers, HMCA has used the money wisely to develop existing services and to push forward the creation of a new village centre, bringing further amenities to this community.? HMCA receives support from Devon County and West Devon Borough Councils, and South Hams and West Devon Primary Care Trust (PCT) ? each authority committing £3,000 each year for three years, bringing a total £27,000 investment from the three authorities. This is the second year of the three-year agreement.
