TRANSPORT improvement schemes in West Devon can go ahead next year, after the Government confirmed that more than £27 million could be spent by the county council in the coming year.
The money can be borrowed over the next financial year and compares with £22,684 million for the current year — the figure nearly £3 million higher than the sum originally indicated by the Governmment.
The money will be spent on a variety of schemes throughout Devon, including structural maintenance work on roads in the Okehampton, Holsworthy and Crediton areas.
They are listed in the county's Devon on the Move local transport plan which runs from 2001 to 2006.
Cllr David Morrish, executive member with responsibility for transport, said: 'I am pleased the Government is still supportive of Devon on the Move.
'Communities across the county are beginning to see the benefit of our work and today's announcement will help us to maintain progress.'
