THE winning Okehampton Golf Club teams coped well with the changes in the weather on Saturday and posted some very good scores, even though they came in dripping wet! The competition was a Three Ball Better Ball Stableford and Division One victors Malcolm Hooper, Del Nash and Graham Moysey scored 88 points. Second were Martin Aggett, Mike Charlesworth and Robin Webb 82 points, third, on the back nine with 80 points, were John Tolley, Allan Deakin and Dan Curtis. Also 80 pts in fourth place were Phil Martin, Richard Johnson and Adam Cook. Division Two was won by Paul Skidmore, Tim Schofield and Nick Redman with 84 pts, second John Haley, Ian Priestley and Paul Douglas, on back 9 countback with 78pts, third Rob McDowell, Richard Prouse and Brian Fishleigh and also with 78pts in fourth place were Peter Stunell, Shirley Stunell and Christine Turner. Both Ladies? County Teams were in action last week with the Creasy Team playing Exeter at home. It was another very successful day for the Bronze players. Mary Keir won 5-4, Chris Stevens won 4-3, Maureen Willcocks halved her match, Sally Griffin won 4-3, Doris Jewell won 4-3, Gladys Thatcher won 6-4 and Maureen Howe (Ladies? Captain) halved. This gave them a 14pts to 3 win. The President?s Team played their last match of their group, playing Thurlestone at home. They had a wonderful win although Dawn Phillott lost 5-6 against a player really in form. Marcia Holwill with a tough battle won 2 up, Penny Deakin won 6-4, Mo Huggins won 4-3, Marcia Jones also won 4-3, Pam Jarman won 5-4 and Cherry James had a fantastic win of 9-7, against an opponent who had not lost a match this season! This gave the team 14 points to 3 victory and gives them a total of 101 points, so now it?s just a case of wait and see what the other teams in the group can do. Wednesday?s results of the ladies? Stableford has caused a few problems with some wonderful results and handicap reductions. One Creasy player has now come down to a Silver handicap. Sue Glanville scored an amazing 45 points winning the Bronze Division and bringing her down from 25 to 22, Pat Kirby had an excellent 42 pts bringing her handicap down from 30 to 28 and Mary Keir with 39 points brought her handicap down from a bronze 21 to a silver 20. This puts her out of the Creasy team, but the captain of the team Eileen Piper will wish her well and give another player the opportunity to play in this successful team. The Silver Division was won by Lin Atkinson with another wonderful 42 points, going from 18 to 17, second Cherry James 37 points and third was Dawn Phillott 35 pts.
