MOUNT House Girls? 1sts acquitted themselves well at the Blundell?s hockey tournament after a slow start. In their first match in the group stage, Mount House lost 1-0 to Wellington School. They learned from this defeat and in the second game against Queen?s College Taunton, veterans Fern Toynton and India Leigh dominated the middle part of the pitch, allowing the team to settle down and play much better hockey. Hannah Donne slotted home a well-placed shot and Mount House went on to win the game 1-0. The next match was a tough battle against Exeter College. The Mount House team was bolstered by fine defensive work by Flora Dickinson and goalkeeper Louisa Butcher, and after a series of attacks, an excellent cross-goal pass from Fern Toynton was clinically swept home by Emily Redman. There was no further scoring and Mount House won 1-0 to qualify for the semi-finals by finishing second in their group. The semi-final against Taunton Junior School was exciting and close-run, with Mount House losing by the only goal, and finishing the tournament in third place out of eight schools.
