TRADE was fast at this month?s livestock fair in Tavistock.

Auctioneers Ward and Chowen reported a good entry of cattle and sheep at the event on November 4.

The sale began with the breeding cattle, which saw a 7-year-old pedigree Hereford bull sell for £650 from Mrs D Dawe in Chillaton.

A good entry of 26 breeding females sold to £705 for a 9-year-old South Devon Cow with her calf from D Bowhay, from Mary Tavy.

A total of 330 store cattle were forward, and with buyers from Yorkshire, Cheshire and Essex, trade was rapid. In the sheep pens, 300 store lambs were snapped up quickly, with buyers keen to fill up lorries.

Top price was £40.50 for a pen of Wether lambs from W A Cole and Sons, Sampford Spiney.

Cull ewes sold to £42.50 for G Goddard of Yelverton.
