Sidmouth U16s 48

Okehampton U16s 32

OKEHAMPTON rugby team were the first to score from a line-out in the opening minute which was passed down the line to see Mark Toms score in the corner. Sidmouth responded with an interception and a try under the posts which their fly half converted.

Okes held their own in the scrums giving quick ball resulting in tries from Luke Liversidge and George Baker. In end to end rugby, Sidmouth scored a try through the full back. Oke player of the match Angus Mortimore came through on the crash ball and strong support and rucking led to Will Cooper scoring a try. It was tit for tat with Sidmouth again breaking through the line to score the next try before Zac Middleton scored in the corner.

Sidmouth again responded with a try and conversion on the half time whistle. In the second half, Sidmouth came out and scored two tries and conversions in quick succession and after a series of plays were awarded a penalty. Okes did not let their heads drop and scored a consolation try through captain, Giles Heard which was converted by Karl Pearce. Sidmouth scored the final try and conversion.

North Okes U15s 15

Plymstock Albion

15s 10

PLYMSTOCK attacked Oke from the kick off and were rewarded with an early try but North Okes settled into their game and defended well.

North Okes made a break up the centre but gave away posession with a knock on. Just before half time Jack Davey kicked a penalty leaving North Okes trailing by just two points.

North Okes stepped it up in the second half and their support play was rewarded with a try from fullback Lewis Taylor who danced around the winger. Scrummaging was good but poor lineouts allowed the opposition to gain posession at a point when North Okes should have scored.

More opportunities were missed by wrong decisions until Connor Stevens made a break and poor tackling from Plymstock allowed him to score under the post.

Plymstock came back with a great run and a disorganised defence allowed them a try just before time.

AN Okehampton side made their return to competitive action in the five team season opening U12s rugby tournament at Exeter Saracens.

A disappointing day saw the Okes win one, draw one and lose two of their matches.

A lack of cohesion and tactics saw Okehampton fall to a 7-0 defeat to a strong Barnstaple outfit. This was followed by a 0-0 draw against Exeter Saracens as both sides struggled for any fluency. A 14-0 defeat to a well drilled Ivybridge side followed before Okehampton finally got a victory on the board.

An improved performance against Totnes saw the Okes win by 26-0. Two tries from Greg Daniel, one for Kieran Coyle and a fine solo score form Joseph Stratton saw the Okes Home. Three successful conversions were added by Corey Holliday, Kieran Coyle and Kieran Atherton on debut.

Hopefully Oke are slow starters this year, and hard work on the training ground will see an improvement in all facets of their play as the season starts in earnest.
