TALENTED musicians will be filling Tavistock Town Hall on Tuesday (December 20) as local band 3's A Crowd host an evening of entertainment to raise money for a youth project.

The evening '3's A Crowd Presents Zephyr Live' will showcase music from new ska and reggae band The Skaletes, youth band Ten Zero One and The Arch Bishops of Tavistock, led by Sam from the Rock 'n' Roll Outlaws.

The gig is to raise money for the Zephyr music project — a Tavistock Youth Café-based project set up by young musicians to teach music to others.

Vicki Lloyd, of the youth café, said: 'The Zephyr Project has been going for about four years. It was started by young people wanting to play music. They started getting better and started teaching others.

'It grew with the help of funding from Awards for All, from which they bought a PA system and learned how to use it and now hire it out to create revenue for the project.'

The ethos of the project is young people teaching young people in a safe and comfortable environment and making it affordable. A one-to-one half-hour lesson with the project is just £2, with drums, guitar and bass guitar lessons on offer.

The Zephyr Project currently has three tutors Shaun Smith, Ryan Smith and Jack Lewis. Shaun took an introduction to youth work course and now runs the project with Vicki.

The tutors make up the band 3's A Crowd, who will play in between the other bands on the night. Proceeds from the evening will go towards fixing old equipment and buying new equipment for the project.

Vicki said: 'The tutors are giving up their time and energy to put on their biggest gig so far. All the bands are donating their time for nothing too.'

The evening will run from 7pm, with a bar available for over 18s and cupcakes on sale for everyone else. A raffle will also be held with a £200 guitar up for grabs donated by Shaun Smith, among other prizes.

Tickets are £4 or two for £6, available from Tavistock Youth Café, from Mark Denman in the pannier market on Fridays and Saturdays or on the door.
