AFTER all the finals that the ladies of Okehampton Golf Club have been involved in, it was back to club trophies this week with the Margaret Down Trophy for the best gross score and the Peacock Salvers for the best net silver and bronze scores. The course was quite difficult with some essential work being done on the greens but Penny Deakin made light of the difficulties to win the Margaret Down Trophy with an excellent gross 82. The Peacock Salvers were won by Kay King who won the bronze with a net 71 and the silver was won by Pam Jarman with a net 78. In the previous week?s Stableford the silver division was won by Lin Atkinson 33points, with Pam Jarman taking second place on countback from Cherry James after they scored 28. The bronze division was won by Kay King 36, Doris Jewell was second with 34 and third was Kath Mansell 32. The men played for the Stanley Bridges Salver in their qualifying medal on Saturday. Harry Hawkins won the Salver and the first division with a wonderful gross 68 net 61. Damien Fletcher was second with gross 74 net 63 and third was Kevin Cornwall gross 70 net 64. Division two was won by Simon Hern gross 78 net 63, gaining second place on countback was Mike Allen gross 80 net 64 and third was Matt Milford gross 79 also net 64. Division three was won on countback by Wayne Moore who had gross 85 net 65, second Nick Thomas gross 90 net 65 and third was Mike Hutchinson gross 88 net 66. The annual picture match versus Tiverton Golf Club was played on Sunday with a win for Okehampton by 7-4.
