THE busy summer schedule is over and the season is quietening down now at Okehampton Golf Club. The weather is changing and winter rules are now in. The ladies played a qualifying Stableford on Wednesday and the scores were mostly good for the windy showery conditions. They suited Mo Huggins, who won the silver division with an excellent 36 points, Marcia Holwill was second, with 33, and Pam Jarman third, with 31. The bronze division was won by Chris Stevens, who scored 34 points, second Lorna McCurrach 25, and third Doris Jewell 22. The club played a more relaxing format on Saturday ? the format being a 1, 2, 3 Stableford. This means that a team of three play and on the first six holes one score counts; on the second six holes two count and on the final six all three count. So a level par round would mean 72 points. The standard was better than this with Mark Wonnacott, Mike Allen and Steve Fewings winning division one with 80 points. In second place was John Haslem, Kane Wills and Richard Reid with 79 and third was Harry Hawking, Fred Cooke and Nick Atkinson on 78. Division two was won by Andrew Shapland, Ricky Lee and Ron Iles on 78 points, Andrew Smallridge, Dan Potter and Mike Booth with 75 were second with Matt Soby, Dave Grimes and Paul Macdonald third on 73. The finals of the adult/junior were held at Bigbury on Sunday with Kevin Cornwall and Adam Clark and Paul Rattenbury and Dan Curtis, Okehampton?s representatives. l An apology to Val Roberts who scored a hole-in-one on the 12th hole while playing in the mixed open on September 17. This was not reported at the time.
