A FANTASTIC total of £3,000 was raised last month at a charity golf day organised by the Golfers Guide Dog Society (GGDS).

For more than 25 years GGDS has been organising charity golf days in Devon and Cornwall to raise funds for Guide Dogs.

On July 27 the GGDS played for the Mike Kitchenham Memorial Trophy at Tavistock Golf Club. A great success, not only because Tavistock members Phil Harbottle and Chris Laight won the trophy, but in excess of £2,800 was raised towards the society’s target of £6,000 for this year. The money will enable sponsorship of a guide dog puppy for the fourth year running.

The financial success of the event was due to the generosity of its sponsors, including many local businesses, which sponsored holes and donated raffle prizes, together with items for a secret auction.

Due to the success of the day, Vic Eastwood, on behalf of the GGDS, was able to present a cheque for £3,000. This was received on behalf of Guide Dogs for the Blind by Lincoln, the current puppy being sponsored by the GGDS.

Lincoln’s puppy walkers John and Pamela were also in attendance together with Jean Green and Pam Gratton, who represented Guide Dogs for the Blind. Christine Blandford together with her guide dog Zuki also attended and talked to various people about the benefits of being able to have a guide dog.
