TAVISTOCK Pannier Market?s longest-serving trader notched up a remarkable half-century last week.
Norma Perry first began trading with her father on a market garden stall in the market in 1953.
?It?s changed an awful lot,? said Norma. ?I?ve seen customers come in as little children, who are now grown up with children of their own. I have seen whole families grow up.?
Norma said the stall had originally been at the far end of the market where the lock-up units are now situated, but she had been in her present pitch on the opposite side of the market for around 12 years.
And Norma intends to carry on trading in the market for many more years to come: ?I am not going to retire, maybe they will have to carry me out feet first, but I have no thought at all of retiring,? she said.
Norma was presented with cards and gifts by fellow traders at her pannier market stall last Friday morning.
