WEST Devon windowcleaner and impresario Fred Still decided to do something positive and fun to help the farmers.
The result is a glitzy gig featuring one of the country's top Abba tribute bands in Tavistock Town Hall on Saturday, May 26.
Abba Gold has recently completed a week at the Spier Arts Festival in South Africa — as well as shows from Moscow to Budapest via a brief stopover in Beruit.
The last time they visited Tavistock they were a hit with the audience and tickets sold like hot cakes.
'I know for a fact that day by day money is becoming very hard to come by for the farmers,' says Fred who lives at Lydford.
'I'm surrounded by farmers where I live and they are suffering. I can see that first hand. I wanted them to know we are doing something for them — and that the money raised will be available locally.
'Putting on this concert might help. It is better to try and help than do nothing. I also wanted to put a smile on people's faces. Abba Gold will appeal to all ages.'
There will be 400 tickets at £10 a head. Millerson estate agents are sponsoring the ticket printing and Book Stop in Market Street, Tavistock are selling them.
Fred is currently looking for a disco to start the evening with and to round it off after the concert.
'The evening is planned to provide some good entertainment for people to get happy,' says Fred.
Fred is also asking for volunteers to help with the stewarding during the evening so that more money can be put towards the farmers' fund. He can be contacted on (01822) 820479.
