JACK Cockerton and Luke Wakefield returned from Western County ASA Youth Championships with gold medals for Kelly College from the individual medley events. Jack, competing in the 17 and over category, claimed first place in the 200 and 400IM and Luke repeated the feat in the 200m event in the 15/16 years category. Both boys appeared in a total of 12 individual finals and earned a further 5 medals between them with Luke taking home silver in the 100 and 50 breaststroke and Jack the silver in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and bronze in the 400 freestyle. Girls captain, Amanda Sanderson, also appeared in 6 finals in the 16 and over age group where she fought hard for silver medals in the 100 and 200m backstroke and just missed the medal positions in the 200 freestyle while team mate Sophie Howe earned places in 14/15 years 100 and 200m butterfly, 200IM and 200 backstroke finals. She swam a great final in the 200m butterfly against Jodi Worbey of Exeter City to edge herself into the silver medal position. In the breaststroke events, swimmers Sophie Calpin, Sophie Stanford and Holly Yeo all made it through to finals. Sophie Calpin gained success in the 100m events winning a bronze in the 14/15 age group. Sophie Stanford just missed out on the medals with a fourth place in the 16 and over 50m event as did Joshua Lake in the 15/16 boys event. Daniel Kidwell earned a just reward for his season of determined training by securing a bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke for the boys. Matthew Henry in his first year at the Youth Championships produced a silver medal winning performance in the heat declared 400m IM, won a bronze in the 50m backstroke and also took part in the 200m backstroke, finishing 5th. In the team relays, the boys team won two silver medals ? in the 4 x 100m and 4 x 200m freestyle whilst the girls claimed bronze in the 4 x 200m freestyle event. Other finalists were Brikitta Batten, Jonathan Wills and Philip Channon (50m backstroke), Jakie Wellman (50 and 100m freestyle), Samantha Tubb (100m butterfly) and David Kelly (50m backstroke, 50 and 100m butterfly). Also competing were Becky Fletcher, Flora Duffy, Meghan Spence and Junior Heffernan.
