IT was a golden day for West Devon Scout Jonathan Hopkins recently when he was presented with the Duke of Edinburgh?s Gold Award. Jonathan received his award from the Lord Lieutenant of Devon at the county presentation at County Hall, Exeter. To achieve the award he had to complete expeditions, serve the community, and learn and practise new skills. West Devon Scouts Zoe Viggars and James Watson also received their Gold Awards. The expeditions undertaken by the three scouts ranged from Dartmoor to the Picos in Spain. They are now looking forward to receiving their national presentation in St James? Palace, London, where they will meet the Duke of Edinburgh. All three thanked their parents, scouters, guiders, community groups and Tavistock College staff who had supported them.
