Okehampton Men?s 1st XI 0
Ashmoor 0
OKEHAMPTON?S men?s hockey team went into battle against top of the league Ashmoor, who had the advantage of their rubber-based pitch.
A strong start from both teams set the pace, with Ashmoor having the first chances. But they underestimated the skills of veteran defenders Dave Dennis, Mark Clapham and John Jarvis, who kept them at bay.
Good play-making by Richard Jones, Olly Tallowin and Phil Mellor set Mark Parsons up with a one-on-one with Ashmoor keeper, but the shot was narrowly saved.
Chances come again for Okehampton from the experienced pairing of Tim Morgan and Darren Phare.
The second half started with both teams coming out strongly, but Ashmoor could not break Okehampton?s defence, forwarded by sweeper Colin Letbridge.
With rolling subs Mike Reynolds, Paul Feehan and Simon Bourne putting in a dazzling performance on the wings Okehampton still could not beat the Ashmoor keeper. Bourne?s volley shot wide of the post.
Ashmoor made a break late in the second half, but Nic Kearly was letting nothing through and has kept a clean sheet for three consecutive games.
Man of the match: Mark Clapham.
For all interested in playing hockey, training is on Tuesday nights at the all-weather pitch, 8.15pm to 9.15pm.
