P & D Premier

Tavistock . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .3

Mainstone . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .0

THE Lambs continued their early season good form with this convincing victory over Mainstone.

Steve Daymond started this game after coming on against Plymouth Civil Service and scoring after just nine minutes fully justifying his selection.

On the half hour, first teamer Chris Gott put the Lambs in a commanding position converting a Rob Hawkins cross.

The first twenty minutes of the second half was a very edgy affair for the lambs as Mainstone came back into the game and could have easily opened their account but Smith sliced wide when well placed. They had another lucky break when John Bradford tried some fancy footwork in his own area only to put the ball on a plate for Jones to shoot wide.

Tavistock finally killed off the visitors with a goal of exquisite quality, a sweeeping move across field found Steve Brownlow on the edge of the area to smash the ball high into the net to put the Lambs clear at the top of the Premier League at the time of going to press.

Tavistock . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .1

Plymouth Parkway . . . . . . . . . . 1

THE Lambs failed to take advantage of gaining a significant gap at the top of the table when they dropped two points against what is proving to be their bogey team since Parkway came into the league two seasons again.

But the Lambs had the perfect start after five minutes when Craig Hodge's high center caused confusion and keeper Richard Rowe dropped the ball for Lee Cansfield to take the ball wide and slot into the far post corner.

Within a minute Tavistock's keeper Andy Meeds came to the Lambs' rescue with a point blank save.

On the half hour the game changed dramatically.

First the Lambs broke quickly out of defence and Dean Tongue found himself clear on goal but was forced wide.

He put the ball across the goal for defender Hodge who came from deep only to see the ball bobble in front of him when he was about to slot home and it sailed over the bar from six yards.

Within minutes the Parkway were on level terms. They gained a fortunate free kick half way into the Lambs' half.

Dave Water's grass cutter skimmed the surface like a scud missile and was to hot to handle for Meeds — it slipped from his grasp like a vaselined banana and Wade Price was first to the rebound to slot home from close range.

Rowe saved well from Darren Cliffe in the second minute of the second half and Hodge almost made amends for his earlier misfortune when his point blank header bounced off Rowe and went to safety.

Cliffe and Wayne Crow had worked their socks off and were replaced by Chris Kiely and Danny McTighe for the last twenty minutes.

The Lambs turned the screw to get the all-important winner with Cansfield going close on two occasions and Dean Tongue shooting over in the final minutes when well placed.

A very entertaining game supplemented by the Eric Pinch 'Grandstand Road' show ably assisted by assistant referee Mr K Rowe from Illogan.
