THE Hatherleigh Walruses are extending an invitation to any brave souls who wish to join them on their annual New Year's Day Dip.
Each year the group take a dip in the freezing water of the River Lew on January 1 to raise money for a range of charities.
This year's theme is World War 1, in commemoration of 100 years since the war began. Swimmers will be decked out in costume as they get into the river near Hatherleigh Community Centre. Spectators can view the brave swimmers from the bridge over the river as they brave the water.
The recipients of any money raised will be Hatherleigh Youth Football, Hatherleigh Players and Hatherleigh Festival.
In the last 24 years, the event has raised more than £50,000 for charity, and organisers are hoping to raise close to £4,000 in 2014.
All swimmers must be 18 or over. If you wish to take part, please call Richard Tidball on 01837 810010 for details.
