SIX new homes will be built on the old Pridham engineering site at Lamerton, following a decision by West Devon?s planning committee last week. Members heard the site is currently used for the manufacture of boilers for steam trains ? outline planning consent for residential development had already been granted. The committee heard there had been some objections to the scheme from residents in the area who were concerned the houses would be over-dominant and would lead to overlooking of neighbouring properties. There were also concerns about drainage. Planning officers told the committee that the layout of the development was generally acceptable and there was a good level of screening. One of the plots did give cause for concern regarding overlooking but the applicant had now agreed to move the building further back into the site and to reduce the impact of the roof. Parking provision on the site was considered ?entirely acceptable ? the Environment Agency had no objections to the application regarding drainage. Planning consent was granted subject to conditions, including details of surface water drainage, to be submitted to the council prior to first occupation in the development. In addition, no trees are to be felled and parking areas, including garages, should be kept solely for private cars.
