HOUSING provider West Devon Homes is celebrating a glowing report, after a rigorous inspection visit by the housing industry's watchdog.

The Housing Corporation's report, produced after a two-week in-depth look at the work undertaken by West Devon Homes, concludes that it is giving a good and improving service to its tenants.

The report stated that the vast majority of tenants were happy with the quality and condition of their accommodation.

It said: 'The association is clearly working towards continuous improvement. It has relevant aims and objectives and is able to demonstrate many changes and improvements since transfer.'

Derrick Pinckard, chairman of West Devon Homes, said: 'I am really pleased.

'It's been a difficult first three years and we have worked hard to establish good relations with tenants and others locally.

'We want to be known as a good provider getting the basics right — this report shows we're heading in the right direction.'

Stuart Davies, chief executive, said: 'Inspection was a nerve-wracking experience — a bad result could have disheartened all involved with the company.

'Instead, the positive outcome is a real shot in the arm and a boost for all the staff.'

West Devon Homes was formed three years ago, following the transfer of the borough council's housing stock of some 1,400 dwellings.

Recommendations issued by the report will now form the basis of an action plan for coming months, enabling West Devon Homes to continue the good work carried out since its formation.

Sonia Wicks, chairman of the tenants' panel, said: 'West Devon Homes are by no means perfect but they are willing to listen and if something goes wrong, they will do their best to put it right.

'What I really value is their open attitude and willingness to work with tenants.'
