GUNNISLAKE amateur dramatic group GLAD received a welcome boost in funds recently.

County Councillor for Gunnislake Dorothy Kirk presented the group with £500 from Cornwall Council's Community Chest Fund.

The GLAD group aims to bring people of all ages together through performance, and the money will go towards its next production — the Gunnislake Royal Variety Show.

GLAD chairman Phil Green said: 'We've performed two pantomimes so far in our short history, but this year we're going up a gear to show even more talent.'

The packed programme will include songs from musicals, rock 'n' roll and rousing tunes in keeping with the anniversary of the beginning of the First World War. There will also be character sketches and a mini-panto.

Phil added: 'We're delighted to say that new talent has appeared to help us prove yet again that Gunnislake folk, of all ages, can sing, dance and act with the best of them.'

The Gunnislake Royal Variety Performance is taking place this week, starting yesterday (Wednesday) until Saturday, February 22. Gunnislake School in Chapel Street is being majestically transformed for the occasion and the audience will need to go prepared to do some flag-waving.

Tickets for the performances, of which two are matinees, can be bought at the Premier Stores in Gunnislake at £6 each or £3.50 for concessions.
