THE Mount House U11s girls' hockey team (pictured) gave a good account of themselves as they represented Devon in the West of England hockey tournament at Millfield School, Somerset.

They won the right to represent the county when they became Devon champions back in January.

In the pool matches they had a draw and a win over Monkton Prep (Wiltshire) followed by two narrow losses against Beaudesert (Gloucestershire) left Mount House second in the group and took them through to the quarter-finals, where they met Truro Prep (Cornwall).

This was a hard-fought match that ended in a 0-0 draw at full time, and had to be decided on penalty strokes. Although Mount House lost this tiebreaker, they should take great encouragement from the fact that making it into the final rounds of the tournament places them in the top eight schools for their age group in the whole of the West of England.

While all of the girls performed superbly on the day, special mentions must go to the Mount House goal-scorers, Jessica Huntington and Charlotte Barrett, Samantha Unsworth-White in defence and goalkeeper Helen Jackman.
