Thursday August 22 was beautiful and sunny, perfect for the Ladies' Captain's Day. The ladies' captain, Mrs Pat Gove, organised an individual stableford competition combined with a three-ball better ball team competition.

David Gove greeted the ladies on the ninth tee with a glass of mildly alcoholic fruit punch. This did not deflect Gilly Jarvis, who broke the course record with a gross score of 71.

The ladies reassembled in the evening at the golf club for dinner and prize giving. Gilly Jarvis won the silver division and the new ladies' captain's day' trophy with 43 points, second was Annette Sweeney with 42 points and third was Bunty Salz with 39 points.

Georgie Evans won the bronze division with 39 points; Lilias Strachan was second with 37 points and third was Chris Longden also with 37 points.

The team of Gilly Jarvis, Jean James and Georgie Evans was first with 94 points, second was Evelyn Dyche, Claire Rushbrook and Chris Longden with 91 points and third was Joan Voisin, Annette Sweeney and Diane Reardon with 90 points.

It was a memorable day, with superb organisation, ideal golfing conditions, a new course record, wonderful prizes and a convivial atmosphere.

Also on August 22, Laura Eastwood and Belinda McSherry played the sixth round match of the Daily Mail foursome competition, against Falmouth at Yelverton. This was a tough match against a couple in top form. With handicaps of 6 and 12, they played to scratch. Laura and Belinda lost on the 17th hole.

On August 6 there was a competition played between the veterans, the ladies and the juniors. This is always a fun event. The juniors won with 223 points, the ladies came second with 173 points and the veterans were third with 172 points.
