TAMAR and Tavy Gig Club attended the climax of the Gig Rowing Season at The Newquay County Championships.

This popular event saw 96 crews start in the first round early on Saturday and finished with the final late on Sunday afternoon.

With all the clubs putting out their best crews Tamar and Tavy knew it was going to be hard, competitive racing. The A crew consisting of, cox Drummond Challis, Russell Baylis, Robert Dawe, Mike Barnes, Andy Morton and Tom Sargeant rowed first, in a heat containing three crews who finished in the top 24 last year.

After a tough row, over the gruelling Newquay Course, they finished a creditable fourth.

The B crew — cox Carolyn Dawe, Chris Dill, Cris Parry, Stuart Armstrong, Jon Overnal, Jon Rogers and Martin Painter — rowed in the next heat, rowing strongly to finish fifth.

Unfortunately both crews failed to progress further in the competition finishing 50th and 68th respectively.

Rowing has now finished for the season, but the club continues training with Concept 2 Rowing on Monday and Wednesday evenings at Bere Ferrers, in preparation for the 2010 World Championships at The Isles of Scilly.
