THISTLES started in confident fashion, displaying more of their recent improvement.
The lively Darren Phillips was at the centre of most of Thistles? attacks, assisted by Matt Beckingham and Joseph Busuttil, whose link-play caused problems for the Looe defence.
Stubborn defending by Tony Coles, Rob Shuttler and Jon Walker restricted Looe to few openings and it was against the run of play that they took the lead midway through the first half.
Thistles stuck to their task and equalised just before the break through Beckingham.
The second half followed the same pattern as the first with Thistles defending confidently and the midfield creating chances for the strikers.
Darren Phillips was creating havoc for the visiting defence but it took a superb flying save from Alex Dingle to deny Looe taking the lead.
Thistles went ahead with an excellent goal from the outstanding Phillips, following a good run and cross by Busuttil.
The key to this victory was a good display from Paul Gibbings who marked Looe?s danger-man, Andrew Pollard, completely out of the game.
