ANY sort of vandalism is to be condemned, of course, but I couldn't help feeling a twinge of satisfaction at the treatment meted out to the hideous giant plastic Costa Coffee cup outside the Post Office, reported in the Times of January 16.

Neither use nor ornament, this piece of street litter was nothing but an eyesore in the Conservation Area, where street furniture is supposed to fit in with the historic environment.

It would be nice to think that Costa would replace it with a more sensitive advertisement or even something useful, like a litter bin for the used cups and lids that its product creates.
