GET your running shoes on! One of the most scenic runs in Devon is taking place on Sunday September 18 and now is the time to enter. The Oke Croak Run is a fun and challenging 10(ish) mile run amongst beautiful Dartmoor scenery, starting and ending at the football clubhouse, Simmons Park, Okehampton. The course follows footpaths onto the moor from Simmons Park. Then runners find their own way to Oke Tor and Yes Tor before heading back down to Okehampton. The terrain can be rough and boggy in places and will require navigational skills if the weather is bad. Runners should be prepared for wet weather conditions and carry map, compass and suitable waterproof clothing. Changing facilities, toilets and a bar will be available at Simmons Park, courtesy of the football club. Recent years have shown this to be a fun, social occasion. You don?t have to be a fast runner to enter; just getting around the course is an achievement to be proud of. The only requirement is to be able to use a map and compass, in case of bad weather. And don?t forget, you can enter on the day between 10 and 11.30 am. The entry fee is £7 in advance or £9 on the day. All finishers will receive a memento, with prizes for the 1st male and female, with veteran prizes as well. Please note that dogs are not allowed to accompany runners. Minimum entry age is 18. The run is being supported by the North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team who will be providing checkpoints, marshalling and first aid. All surplus proceeds will go to the Rescue Team.
