AN ultra marathon held every year at Princetown will be celebrating its tenth anniversary next week. The Dartmoor 'Discovery' 32 mile Ultra Marathon starts and finishes in the town on Saturday, June 7 and will see almost 200 runners take part. Prizes will be awarded at the Plume of Feathers inn after the event for the first seven men, first four women, first three men's teams, first woman team, first local, first HM Forces, first man and woman newcomer, first oldest man and woman to finish the race. Entrants include the course record holder, the winner of the last three events and the top woman ultra distance runner in England, Adela Salt. An ultra marathon is any race longer than the standard 26 mile marathon — the discovery marathon is one of the shortest ultra marathons but also one of the toughest.
