AN EAST Cornwall festival, which in 2012 exceeded all expectations in its first year, is being repeated with a glittering headline act.

The Calstock Jazz and Blues Festival will once again take place in October and include every venue in the village.

The headline act will be the Jacqui Dankworth Trio. Hailing from a musical dynasty, she is the daughter of Cleo Laine and the late Johnny Dankworth.

Jacqui is one of the country's leading jazz vocalists and her concerts showcase a unique versatility drawing on jazz, folk, soul, and blues. She is also a songwriter and lyricist.

Another jazz giant taking part is the saxophonist, Jean Toussaint. Born in the Caribbean, musically educated in the USA and based in the UK, for the past 25 years he has played continually with other world class musicians.

The weekend programme will feature a variety of jazz and blues musicians, vocalists and workshops from the surrounding area.

Alastair Tinto from the festival organising committee and last year's instigator said he was delighted by the support and enthusiasm from the people of Calstock.

'Last year we winged it a bit but it was incredible and now the bar is set quite high,' he said.

'I knew our first event was going to be good but I could never have written it as good as it was. It was really fantastic and every single event was well supported.

'After the festival everybody said what a wonderful community event it was so we could not make that a one-off.

'We have already sold a quarter of the tickets for the Jacqui Dankworth Trio and the event is not until October 25-27.'

As before, events will be held in all the village venues, namely both pubs, village hall, social club, The Old Chapel arts centre, Limekiln Art Gallery, and the church, ensuring that the whole community is involved.

l Tickets are available from The Old Chapel on 01822 833 183 or through the website at http://www.calstockarts.org">www.calstockarts.org and from Levine's Stores in the village.
